Application Details

Mission Statement: Explorations works to connect the Texas A&M community to the scholarly knowledge being produced by Texas A&M undergraduate students.

Values: Explorations values academic exploration, interdisciplinary connections, and professional publication.

New Board Member applications are accepted from August to October each year. Applicants may be interviewed prior to acceptance. After one year of service, Board Members are encouraged to take on leadership roles.

The Board works year-round to meet the journal's annual publication schedule, developing skills in areas such as:

  • Leadership
  • Public speaking
  • Critical thinking
  • Time management
  • Editing
  • Marketing
  • Publishing
  • Graphic design
  • Project management
  • Virtual collaboration

Explorations Board Members typically meet every Wednesday at 5:00 pm during the fall and spring semesters to discuss recruitment, promotion, and editorial tasks in order to meet the journal’s annual publication schedule. Board Members also help promote the journal by holding resource tables, presenting to classes and other student organizations, as well as volunteering at LAUNCH-sponsored events throughout the year (including the Undergraduate Research Expo and the Undergraduate Research Scholars Symposium).

In the fall semester, Board Members:

  • Recruit new Board Members
  • Prepare for the annual journal release
  • Solicit synopsis submissions for the next volume
  • Attend weekly meetings and training sessions
  • Promote opportunities with Explorations through presentations

In the spring semester, Board Members:

  • Complete assigned submission reviews (synopses, full manuscripts, and articles), participate in the submission decision discussions, and select the works that will move forward to publication
  • Work directly with prospective authors to refine submissions for acceptance and/or publication
  • Attend weekly meetings and training sessions
  • Promote opportunities with Explorations through presentations
